Finding Beauty in the Wilderness – An Adventure in Goat Rocks Wilderness

A view of Mount Adams“…zzzzzzZZZZZZ!!!”, that familiar buzz in my ear.

“Get off!”.  I flail around trying to whisk the ‘skeeters away.  They’ve already gotten me many times over.  “Paul, I’m gonna get going.  I can’t rest, they just start swarming, and it’s a pain to take my pack on and off.”  Paul messes with his gear and I get ready to get up from our rest.  The other two guys are behind us somewhere on the trail below.

I once again heave my pack up for more of the journey and trudge onward.  How much more?  I don’t know.  When I go on a long hike I figure there’s no point in waiting for the ending.  The hill is always going to be there whether I rest or not.  Just embrace the journey.  huff, puff…huff, puff…

Taking a Different Turn

View of Columbia Gorge from Highway 14Okay, so it’s been awhile since I’ve updated.  Overtime at the union job is a blessing and a curse at the same time.

These days, living an adventure is more important than writing.  Okay, so maybe I haven’t hiked to the South Pole or Climbed McKinley or anything terribly newsworthy, but hiking the Columbia Gorge works for me, and I can vicariously enjoy the more extreme adventures in books or the National Geographic channel.
